The use of acoustic streaming in Sub-micron particle sorting

The lack of personal particulate matter (PM) monitoring technique hinders the knowledge negative health impacts caused by inhaling PM. Acoustophoresis has a potential to produce miniature particle sorters that can be carried inside human’s breath zone. Micron particles manipulated Acoustic Radiation Force (ARF), but sub-micron hardly directed due Streaming Effect (ASE). purpose this study is examine feasibility sorting using ASE. In study, 2 D numerical model used simulate movement particles, ranging from 0.1 µm 0.9 in diameter with step size, suspended microchannel. Since tiny circulate according streaming pattern, which depends on geometry container, effect microchannel’s cross-sectional shape investigated, rectangular non-rectangular. Results found are characterized as either ARF-dominant or ASE-dominant. stop at pressure node and sidewalls, while ASE-dominant trapped flow certain area defined size. Larger move narrower region close sidewalls; smaller occupy wider area. outside settling location ARF-dominated separating them reach 98.9% purity non-rectangular Most importantly, different sizes shown possible triangular findings imply ASE mechanism for sorting.Copyright © 2021 American Association Aerosol Research
